1. From Sri Lanka to Vienna: A Journey of Heart and Opportunity
My story began under the vibrant skies of Sri Lanka, where I grew up with dreams as big as the ocean. At 17, I embarked on a journey to the UK for my education, a whirlwind of high school, degrees, and even a stint at the UN in New York.
After 11 years, my heart pulled me back to Sri Lanka, especially because my Austrian partner had joined me there. We built our lives and businesses together, but in 2022, we felt the call to spend time with her family in Austria. It was a new chapter, a chance to weave our stories into a new landscape.
2. Bridging Worlds: The Spark of an IT Venture
The idea for my venture wasn’t just about business; it was about solving a real human need. I saw Austrian companies struggling to find talented IT professionals, and I met incredible developers who missed their families back home.
I realized I could be the bridge – connecting these talented individuals with amazing opportunities, offering them competitive salaries without the need to relocate. It was about creating a win-win, a sustainable ecosystem where everyone thrives, with a zero carbon footprint as a bonus.
3. Navigating the Unknown: Facing Challenges with Courage
Starting a business in a new country is like learning a new dance in the dark. The biggest challenge was navigating the system, finding reliable information in English.
It was a maze, but every step taught me resilience. I learned that having a strong support network is everything. It’s about finding those people who light your way.
4. Embracing a New Culture: Building Bridges of Understanding
Growing up in the UK gave me a foundation for adapting to European life. Plus, I’d been visiting Austria for years and had wonderful Austrian friends. My involvement in Round Table International also opened doors.
But language? That’s been the real adventure! It’s a reminder that learning is a lifelong journey, and every word I learn is a bridge I build.
5. Turning Struggles into Opportunities: The Power of Perspective
People often mistake Sri Lanka for India when I talk about my work. At first, it was frustrating, but then I realized it was an incredible opportunity. I became an ambassador for Sri Lanka, showcasing the incredible talent and potential we have beyond our beautiful beaches and tea plantations. It’s about opening doors and creating opportunities for both Sri Lanka and the DACH region. Every challenge is just an opportunity in disguise.
6. Lessons for Aspiring Entrepreneurs: Authenticity and Courage
Plan, network, and build genuine relationships. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Find mentors who push you; they see your potential even when you don’t. And most importantly, be real. Forget the perfect Instagram facade. Honesty and transparency are your superpowers. We’re all human, and vulnerability is strength.
7. Fueling Vienna’s Future: Building a Sustainable Ecosystem
The world is hungry for talent, especially in tech. I see my business as a way to fuel Vienna’s innovation engine. By connecting Austrian companies with top-tier IT professionals, we’re not just solving a talent shortage; we’re creating a sustainable, efficient, and competitive future.
We’re reducing carbon emissions, minimizing brain drain, and fostering family stability. It’s about building a world where everyone wins.
8. Weaving into the Community: Building Connections, Sharing Knowledge
I’ve made it my mission to become part of the fabric of Vienna. I attend business events, connect with local entrepreneurs through WeXelerate, and co-manage the Vienna Social Club. I want to build bridges, share knowledge, and support both locals and expats. It’s about giving back and being part of something bigger.
9. Diversity and Inclusion: The Heart of Innovation
Diversity and inclusion aren’t just buzzwords; they’re the heartbeat of innovation. Vienna’s strength lies in its ability to embrace different perspectives and create a space where everyone can thrive. It’s about building a community where everyone feels valued and empowered.
10. A Vision for the Future: Empowering Vienna’s Growth
My vision is for RCS to be a trusted partner for Austrian companies, empowering them to thrive in the digital age. I want to help Vienna become a global hub for innovation, where talent flows freely and opportunities abound. It’s about building a sustainable, scalable, and future-ready ecosystem.
11. Staying True to Roots: Balancing Heritage and Integration
Balancing my Sri Lankan heritage with my life in Austria is about embracing the best of both worlds. Moving to the UK taught me the beauty of cultural exchange. I stay connected to my roots while learning German, participating in local events, and building bridges through language and community. It’s about honoring where I come from and embracing where I am.
